Why Tafseer Anwaar Ul Furqaan?
Although there are numerous commendable and well-reasoned traditional commentaries of the Holy Quran available in the Urdu language, a specific need was felt for information in the context of modern research and the light of the Quran and Hadith.
This includes addressing modern topics such as the boundaries of economics, social constraints, human dignity and rights, the application of laws, reward and punishment, human equality, psychology, and the emerging terrestrial and celestial mysteries in sciences. It also covers the proof of the Creator through the existence of creation, leadership and management, existential and non-existential beings, cosmic realities, and new ways of living and its reality.
In all of this, we need information in the context of modern research and in the light of the Quran and Hadith.
Dr. Muhammad Hafeez Arshad, who possesses mastery in Arabic, Islamic, and modern sciences, has authored the commentary "Anwaar-ul-Furqaan" in simple Urdu to achieve this purpose. This work is intended so that readers from all walks of life can not only quench their thirst for knowledge but also choose the correct path for their lives. Furthermore, it serves as a call for new scholars to step into this field and move forward.

Doctor Muhammad
Hafeez Arshid
Renowned Islamic scholar, born 1948 in Chakwal district. Author of Tafseer Anwaar ul Furqaan — a landmark Urdu commentary bringing the divine guidance of the Quran to every Muslim household.
Author's Introduction
Dr. Muhammad Hafeez Arshid, the esteemed author of Tafsir, was born in 1948 into the noble Awan family of Chakwal district. His family was renowned in the region for their knowledge, piety, and spiritual service.
Among his distinguished ancestors was Sheikh al‑Hadith Qazi Qamaruddin (may Allah have mercy on him), a celebrated scholar of Chakrala. He completed his studies under the guidance of Hazrat Maulana Ahmad Ali Saharanpuri (may Allah have mercy on him), from whom he received ijazah (permission) to teach Hadith in 1296 AH. Qazi Qamaruddin devoted his life to serving religion in his area until his passing. His students included both local seekers of knowledge and prominent scholars from Attock, Mianwali, and Gujrat.

He was a staunch defender of Hadith and played a pivotal role in refuting the fitna of Maulvi Abdullah Chakwalawi, who denied Hadith. Through his efforts, this mischief was defeated, and Abdullah was compelled to leave his village. Sheikh Qazi Qamaruddin was also a senior deputy of Hazrat Khwaja Sirajuddin Naqshbandi Mujaddidi, and his name is mentioned with honor in Malfuzat Sirajiyah.
Dr. Hafeez Arshad's grandfather, Maulana Qazi Kaleemullah (may Allah have mercy on him), hailed from Kot Qazi, Tehsil Lawa. After memorizing the Qur'an, he pursued religious education under Sheikh al‑Hadith Qazi Qamaruddin. He was not only his distinguished student but also his son‑in‑law. Following Qazi Qamaruddin's passing, Maulana Kaleemullah succeeded him as his deputy and continued his mission of teaching and preaching.
Muhammad Nasiruddin (may Allah have mercy on him), the father of Dr. Muhammad Hafeez Arshad, was a distinguished scholar and servant of Islam. He memorized the Qur'an and received his foundational religious education at his family‑run Darul Uloom in Chakrala.
- He completed his matriculation from a local high school.
- He then traveled to the prestigious Darul Uloom Deoband (U.P., India) to pursue advanced religious studies.
- In 1365 AH, he graduated with distinction, earning his degree and certificate.
- After the creation of Pakistan, he joined the Oriental College, Lahore.
- Following the death of his mother in 1961, he resigned from his academic post to serve his father.
- He passed away in 1964, leaving behind 29 books on diverse Islamic topics.
After completing his matriculation, Dr. Muhammad Hafeez Arshad pursued Islamic education at Darul Uloom Jamia Muhammadia, Muhammadi Sharif, District Jhang. In 1966, he secured first position in the Fazil Arabic examination conducted officially under the Lahore Board.
Following his religious education, he pursued secular studies: B.A. in History and Economics, and M.A. in Islamic Studies from Punjab University. Choosing not to enter preaching or Imamate, Dr. Arshad studied accounting for professional employment. After passing cost accounting examinations, he worked in Libya for many years with Baker Hughes.
He later obtained an MBA in Finance from the United States of America. His career allowed him to travel extensively across North America, Africa, Asia, and Europe. He retired in 1995. Returning to Pakistan, Dr. Arshad earned a PhD in Islamic Shariah from the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. His doctoral research focused on Islamic banking, resulting in the book "Financing in Islam: An Operational Approach".
Currently, Dr. Arshad oversees the Al‑Hafeez Welfare Trust, dedicated to promoting Islamic education and supporting orphans. His Tafsir stands as a testament to his lifelong commitment to serving religion and humanity.
